WWII Jeep donated

WWII Jeep, uniform and images donated

Hillsboro, Oregon. The National Combat History Archive was the recipient of a fully restored 1942 Ford Jeep donated by a highly decorated WWII and his wife. The Jeep, which was recovered from an Oregon farm and restored from the ground up, was configured to look like a medical version of the vehicle as it served in the 2 battalion, 162nd Infantry of the 41st National Guard Division.

The 41st division was engaged in the savage fighting in and around New Guinea where it earned the nick name “The Jungleers”. In addition to the Jeep, a full tropical uniform, medals (including the DSC, Bronze Star with clusters and Purple Heart) were also donated. Other items donated was a Japanese flag and binoculars,  a US WWII medical kit, hundreds of rare photographs and a complete set of military documents pertaining to the veterans WWII military experience.

“What a fantastic addition to our collection” said NCHA President Gary Mortensen. “This is one of the most comprehensive collections of an individual’s military experience that we have seen”. Mortensen went on to add that the collection was being cataloged, indexed and the images digitized for future sharing. A multi-media presentation was being planned for the Jeep.
